The History of Film Making
The origins of the artistic film can’t be clearly established. The first movies ever made were designed to capture some important moments from the royal courts of Europe more than a century ago. However, the moment when somebody decided to make a movie with a fictional subject can’t be clearly established. We can consider the first movie ever made as being “The horse in motion” in 1878, but this movie is made of pictures. The first movie scene that is still available is “The Runaway Garden Scene” from 1888.
After the year 1890, we can talk about several movies that were released for the public audience. Of course, the success was huge, even if we are talking about several frames lasting for a minute or two. It was still the time when a film was considered only an extravagance, and people considered theatre as the best method to spend free time.
Starting with the year 1902, we can already talk about a movie industry. However, there was no possibility to add the sounds, although the movies were accompanied by noises and music. We can also talk about special effects and animation, and even this aspect might be considered surprising, the effects and the animations appeared long before the sound.
The first sound movie appeared in 1926, and in can be considered as the breakthrough that made Warner Bros. the company that is today. By the end of 1929, a film without sound was almost unconceivable.
Along with the Hollywood tradition, some independent producers took advantage of the increased technical capabilities, releasing the independent movies. Although we can’t talk about the same quality, the scenarios and the interpretation were original, some of those movies being appreciated even today. By the year 1940, we can already talk about a full movie industry, especially after the apparition of the Oscar Prizes.
